On the way, on our left on the other side of the road, we will come across a monument to local poet Gonzalo L\u00f3pez Abente (1878 -1963), known as the &#8220;poet of the sea&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>On the right, going round the jetties, we see the boats. Here is where the market and the patron saint\u2019s feast day were held \u2013 they have now been moved to the port esplanade.<\/p>\n<p>The small one-storey houses show us what\u00a0<strong>traditional buildings were like in Mux\u00eda<\/strong>. The brilliant white spots dotting the coastline are in fact our beaches: Leis, O Lago, Os Mu\u00ed\u00f1os, Area Maior &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>crossed poles<\/strong>\u00a0you can see at the foot of the cliffs, parallel to the sign saying \u201cSecadero de congrio\u201d (Dried conger ell). On very stormy days the sea has even reached the church front.<\/p>\n<p>Any time of year is good to visit Mux\u00eda, although it is especially worthwhile in the main week of events for the\u00a0<strong>popular pilgrimage of Our Lady of A Barca<\/strong>, held around the\u00a0<strong>second Sunday in September<\/strong>. It is a\u00a0<strong>National Tourist Interest Event<\/strong>, the most popular Marian pilgrimage on the Death Coast (Costa da Morte) and one of the best-known in all Galicia. Don\u2019t leave until you have gone under the Kidney Stone (Pedra dos Cadr\u00eds) nine times! \u00a0You can also go round the shrine behind the rectory. You will see the little lighthouse on A Barca headland.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to enjoy a panoramic view of Mux\u00eda to remember, you can go up to\u00a0<strong>O Corpi\u00f1o viewpoint<\/strong>, from where you can see the whole peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>To come back to the village, pass by The Wound (A Ferida) monumental sculpture, which recalls the Prestige oil tanker catastrophe, and keep going towards the west of Mux\u00eda past a place named\u00a0La Atalaya (The Vantage Point). It was used by the pilgrims of yesteryear as the main road, the so-called King\u2019s Highway, was closed to\u00a0<strong>avoid infection with leprosy<\/strong>. Pilgrims washed themselves in the fountain of the same name (A Pel Fountain) before going inside the shrine.<\/p>\n<p>There are good views all round from here. Many of the rocks in this\u00a0<strong>sea of stones<\/strong>\u00a0have funny shapes and locals, especially children, have given them names.
